Final Fantasy Costumes
Diehard video games fans love to dress up as their favorite characters for Halloween, conventions or sometimes just for fun. And while Mario may be the first video game costume that comes to mind to casual gamers, RPG fans think of moogles, chocobos, Black Mages and more amazing costume ideas from Final Fantasy. The Final Fantasy series started in 1987 as a last ditch effort to save the video game company Square (which consequently was the inspiration for the name “final” fantasy). But the game was such a success that it spawned tons of sequels and spin-offs, becoming one of the most popular video game franchises of all time.
Every final fantasy game has a unique cast of characters, often set in Fantasy and steampunk settings, each with memorable personalities and styles of dress. The unique style of Final Fantasy characters make them great sources of inspiration for costumes. The Final Fantasy series is also known for great villains, especially Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7. Some of the most popular Final Fantasy costumes draw inspiration from character designs by Yoshitaka Amano. Amano’s artwork features beautiful patterns and colors and stunning fabric which translate wonderfully into costumes.
In the early days of Final Fantasy the characters didn’t have unique costumes and personalities, but rather distinct styles of dress based on their class. The class system has remained an integral part of many Final Fantasy games, making Red Mage, Black Made, White Mage and Fighters costumes incredibly popular cosplays even today.
Final Fantasy is also known for creative creatures and animals like chocobos, moogles, Espers and eidolons, which all make amazing costume ideas for dedicated Final Fantasy fans.
