Ghost Costumes

The first thing that comes to mind when most people imagine a ghost costume is a white sheet with holes cut out for eyes. That’s not a very impressive costume idea, but ghost costumes don’t have to be that simple. In fact ghost costumes can be very elaborate and detailed.

Since ghosts are essentially spirits of people who have passed on one of the best ways to approach a ghost costume is to choose a specific style of dress from a previous decade or even century. Perhaps you want to be a Victorian ghost who is very old, then you might find a traditional costume from that era and paint it white. Wear the all white costume with some ghostly face paint and a white wig and you will suddenly look like a spooky spirit. Carry chains and make moaning sounds to complete the effect of your old ghost costume. Of course not ever ghost appears as an all white apparition. Some ghosts seem to look mostly normal except for pale skin and sunken eyes. It’s up to you to choose a fitting style for your ghost costume. One popular type of ghost costume is a pirate ghost costume. Legends and stories about pirate ghosts and ghost ships have been around for hundreds of years, so they make a great scary costume idea.

Some ghost costumes are based on TV shows, movies and comics and may look a bit different than what you would expect from a traditional ghost costume. A Beetjuice costume is a classic example of a unique ghost costume from a movie. Ghost Rider, the character with the flaming skull head is another example of an extraordinary ghost costume idea.

Of course the simple ghost costume with a sheet could still work, especially if it’s mean to be a funny costume. There’s a lot of room for interpretation with a ghost costume, so just have fun with the idea!
