Things You’ll Need:

Old Bikini Top
Ankle Length Pencil Skirt
Cardboard
Glitter Fabric Paint
String
Seashells
Fabric Scraps or Construction Paper
Fabric Glue

Putting your Mermaid Costume Together:

Step 1: Cut your fabric scraps or construction paper into half circles. Use the fabric glue to glue the half circles on to the skirt. Overlap the half circles so they look like fish scales.

Step 2: Use the fabric paint to paint the skirt. Save some fabric paint for the mermaid tail.

Step 3: Make a mermaid tail from the cardboard. The tail should curve upward toward your arm. Using a hole punch, put a hole in the flipper end of the tail. Paint the mermaid tail with the fabric paint. Attach the base of the tail to the back of your skirt. Loop a string through the hole in the fin and make a wrist strap at the other end of the string so you can hold your tail.

Step 4: Glue seashells to the bikini top. You can also paint the bikini top to match the skirt before you glue the seashells on to it. You can also buy a bikini top with shells on it from a Halloween shop if you don’t want to make one.
