How to Make an Indian Costume
Headed for a Halloween pow wow? Wanna look better than Pocahontas, Sacagawea and Tonto combined? If you wanna look like the head honcho at your next Halloween bash the following instructions will help you create a unique and authentic looking Indian costume.
Things You’ll Need:
Putting Together your Indian Costume:
Step 1: Generally, when you see Indians depicted on television and in movies they are wearing a neutral color palate. So, to start making this costume you need tan/brown clothing. A longer tunic top works or a burlap sack converted into a top works as well. Pair your top with brown pants. Leather clothing is best if possible.
Step 2: Decorate your clothing with fringe and beads. It was not uncommon for Indians to adorn their clothing with things to make them look more attractive. You can also add fur to your outfit to make it look authentic.
Step 3: Make or buy a headdress. Most Halloween and costume shops carry headdresses. If you want to make one, you can make a band out of card stock and glue craft feathers and construction paper feathers to the band. Try looking for feathers that look natural or realistic rather than colored or dyed feathers.
Step 4: Once you have the basics of your Indian costume you will need to add the accessories. Moccasins are a must have for an authentic Indian costume. You can also buy some plastic Indian weapons from a Halloween or costume store.
