Weirdly Redundant Dimestore Scifi Costumes

Have you ever noticed the formula used for vintage Halloween costumes? Take a weird plastic mask and add a busy plastic torso with a portrait or logo pasted on. We could never figure out why the character would wear a photo of themselves on their chest. (Although io9 is quick to point out that Kirk would totally wear his face on his shirt.)

Seeing pictures of these strange plastic costumes of the past make us appreciate the level of detail in modern store bought costumes. (It also makes us appreciate mom for making us such awesome homemade costumes as kids.)
